I Upgraded to FastChip 2.4.0 and Now I’m Having Problems Downloading to Flash?

One of the important new features in FastChip 2.4.0 is the ability to perform sector erase when downloading to Flash, which can drastically reduce programming times.

Unfortunately, this feature may cause some problems in legacy applications where you may have created a custom Flash memory entry for FastChip.  The following article describes how to circumvent sector erase and erase the entire device.

1. After first creating a configuration image in FastChip Device Link (FDL), click Download.

Within FDL, click "Download".

2. Then, expand the CSoC Download Options by clicking the green plus sign (+) toward the right side of the dialog box.

Then, expand the "CSoC Download Options" by clicking the green plus sign (+) toward the right side of the dialog box.

3. Finally, check Force full erase and then OK.

This action caused FDL to completely erase the selected Flash device.  Unfortunately, this also increases programming time, but programming time is equivalent with FastChip 2.3.0 and earlier.

Check "Force full erase" then "OK".

FastChip Version: 2.4.0

This solution may or may not apply to other versions of the FastChip development system.
